Spring Cleaning: Set Aside These Items to Donate

Spring is the perfect time of year to declutter and refresh your home. As you begin your spring cleaning adventures, set aside some items that you can donate to those in need. Not only will you be doing a good deed, but you’ll also free up some valuable space in your home.

Donating to others can be a fulfilling way of contributing to causes you care about, and it can also make a big difference in someone else’s life.

Items to Set Aside For Donation While Spring Cleaning Your Home:

1. Clothing

The first and most obvious category of items to donate is clothing. Go through your closet and find clothes in good condition you haven’t worn in a year or more. Donate them to a local charity or thrift store that offers clothing to those in need. Some organizations will even come to your home to pick up your donations. You’ll be thankful for the extra closet space!

2. Books

Next on the list is books. Check your bookshelves for books that you haven’t read in years or that you know you won’t read again. Donate them to libraries, schools, or non-profit organizations that collect books. Not only will you help individuals who would benefit from reading these books, but you’ll also help support education and literacy programs.

3. Kitchen Appliances

Your unused kitchen appliances could go a long way in supporting those in need. While spring cleaning, you might find a coffee maker you last used a while ago or a toaster you got as a gift that isn’t needed in your kitchen. Consider donating these appliances to charities or a thrift store that accepts household items.

4. Toys and Games

As your kids get older, they might outgrow their toys and games. Find these items and consider donating them to non-profit organizations and thrift stores so they can be rehomed to children that don’t have as many of their own. A few simple toys and games can provide needed comfort, entertainment, and emotional support to children and their parents.

5. Furniture

If you have any unwanted furniture in your home, consider donating it to a thrift store or local charity. Many organizations will pick up the item at no charge to you, making the process easy and cost-effective. Furniture can be a major expense, and just a few items can make a house feel like a home.
