Jesus in the Gap
For their wickedness blinded them…
Wisdom 2:21

Let’s face it, each of us wants to believe that we are standing on the side of right and good. We all have deep convictions about our faith, our morals, our politics. And often, we gaze in wonder at others, thinking “How can they believe that? Who do they think they are? Don’t they see their wickedness?” We seem to love to divide ourselves into thinking that we are right and others are wrong, finding many ways to judge “the other.”

Now imagine Jesus standing in the gap—you on one side of your belief, the person you most disagree with on the other side, Christ standing in the middle, holding your hands, creating a conduit. Both of you are beloved children of God, bound together in the family of God, a people who know who Jesus is and understand he is asking us to be mended by his mercy, together.

Lord, bridge our divides, and lead us to love.
