Vincentian Honorees
Al & Elaine Messina
We are proud to honor Al and Elaine Messina as the 2025 Golf Classic Vincentian Honorees. Married on April 2, 1977, this devoted couple spent nearly 40 years together, dedicating their lives to education, faith, and service. Meeting at Mineola Middle School—where Elaine served as a guidance counselor and Al as an English teacher—they believed from the start that their union was destined for a higher purpose.
Over the years, both served as Conference presidents on a rotating basis. Al’s leadership extended further as he became a District Council leader, Suffolk South District Council President in 2013, and later, Vice President of the Diocesan Council under Bob Meekins from 2015 for six years. Tragically, during his term, Elaine passed away on October 7, 2016, the Feast of the Rosary, while still actively serving her community.
Today, Al remains a steadfast pillar in our ministry—as a member of the Formation and Renewal Committee and as Spiritual Advisor for the Suffolk South District Council. He often reflects, “Vincentians are the best people you could ever meet,” a sentiment that perfectly honors the legacy of both Al and Elaine.
